Good afternoon band! I hope that you have had a wonderful, fulfilling, and relaxing Thanksgiving Break! I know I am very, very excited to get back to school and to see all of you again! Now, moving into these last THREE weeks of the semester, let's look forward to what we have quickly approaching us!
- This week, we will have Jazz Band rehearsal on Tuesday, and Thursday after school from 2:00pm- 4:00pm -There will be Winterguard practice on Tuesday and Thursday, from 2:15pm - 4;30pm. -Pit orchestra will have our first rehearsal on Tuesday night, from 6:00pm - 8:00pm. - The festival of Lights Parade will be THIS Saturday, December 3rd. The parade will be in the evening time, and a detailed scheduled will be made this week. All band members are required to march in this Parade. Please see Mr. Wiley if you have an excusable reason to miss the parade. This will count as a performance grade. -Solo and Ensemble ideas should be turned into Mr. Wiley by Monday, November 28th. Please write down any solos or ensembles you have been planning on participating in and turn them in so I can assure that they are on the Solo and Ensemble list. -Thank you to all of those who turned in their scale test! If you have not submitted your first scale pass off, you can do so by Wednesday, November 30th for partial credit. Anything later than that will go into the grade book as a Zero. -Your second scale pass off is due by Monday, December 5th. Freshman: Ab Major Upperclassmen: C Major, Db Major. All Scales must be played in the Allstate Rhythm, with arpeggios. You can pass scales off for Mr. Wiley in person, OR email a recording to [email protected] -Our Winter Concert will be happening on Thursday, December 15th at 7:00pm. A detailed post/Facebook event will be made very soon. -The Gift Wrap Booth sign up link is posted on our Facebook Group "PSLHS Band, The Pride of PSL" and below. Every student must work AT LEAST two shifts in the Month of December. This is a fantastic way to support your band, earn volunteer hours, AND have FUN! More details will be shared with students in class this week. The Fundraiser will officially begin on December 1st at the Treasure Coast Square Mall. -Now that marching season is officially over, we are in the full swing of Concert Season! The first pass off for this quarter will be consisting of scales. This pass off is due by Friday, , November 18th. Your pass off can be played in person, or you can email a video recording of you playing to Mr. Wiley at [email protected]. For Freshman: F, Bb, and Eb For Upperclassmen: F, Bb, Eb, and Ab -This Monday (11/14), we will be having a "Gift Wrap Booth" parent meeting in the band room from 6:00-7:00pm. If every student encourages one parent/guardian/adult associated with them to attend the meeting, we could have a great representation of parents to help/volunteer for the booth! -Pit rehearsal for Tuesday, November 15th has been cancelled. -There will be an "Instrument Step Up Showcase" at Treasure Coast High School on Tuesday, November 15th, from 6:00-8:00pm. At this event, there will be a huge variety of brand new intermediate to professional level instruments to test out! If you are in the market for a new instrument, it is highly encouraged to check it out! Bring out your mouthpiece and have some fun trying out some great horns! -We will be having Jazz Rehearsal on Tuesday and Thursday of this week from 2:00-4:00pm in the band room. -Winterguard will be having their first practice on Tuesday, 11/15, from 2:15-4:30. Anyone who is interested in Winterguard should plan to attend. -Solo and Ensemble is right around the corner! All students who are planning to participate in Solo and Ensemble in February should have picked out their music by now, or should be narrowing down their options. All Solo and Ensemble music ideas are due to Mr. Wiley by Monday, November 28th. Please keep in mind that your piece must be at least a Grade 3, it must be on the Solo and Ensemble Music List, and you must have an Original copy of the piece. This is why you need to bring your music ideas to Mr. Wiley by November 28th. -Keep in mind that we will be having our Winter Concert on December 15th, and our "Festival of Lights" Christmas Parade on December 3rd. * = First Chair Player

A student can challenge twice a nine weeks, with the exception of 3 weeks before a major competition/performance. The challenger must initiate the challenge, and the person being challenged must accept, or forgo their chair. Congratulations to the band on a fantastic performance at Marching MPA this Saturday! We have made so much progress this season, and I really want to express how proud I am of the entire band. I really do believe that we are a superior band, despite missing the rating by one little category. I'm very excited to move forward into concert season, beginning with preparation for our Winter concert!
- We will be having seating order auditions Monday and Tuesday of this week. The auditions will take place during class, and the audition material can be found in the weekly news post from last week. -Pit orchestra auditions will take place this Tuesday from 5pm-7pm. This will be in the band room. Students auditioning must play a lyrical and technical musical excerpt, a chromatic scale, and sight read. -The updated rehearsal schedule can be found on the band calendar on pslhsband.com -Jazz band will begin our after school rehearsals THIS week! We will be rehearsing on Thursday from 2:00 - 4:00 pm. -We will be having a parent meeting to discuss the Gift Wrap Booth Fundraiser Monday, November 14th, from 6:00-7:00 pm. -The Calendar will be updated through the rest of the school year soon! We will also be adding new pictures to the website soon, so stay tuned! This Friday we will be traveling to our last football game of the 2016 season! This game will be at South County Stadium in Saint Lucie West, and kickoff is at 7:00 pm. Come on out and support the Marching Jaguars and Jag football team! This will be SLWCHS Homecoming game, so the band will march a Post Game Show! Come out and see both bands perform their final run-through before Marching MPA!
Students must come in their show shirt, dark shorts, high black socks, and marching shoes. Please have your water jugs, and stand tunes music. 3:30 pm - Call time for all band students/begin loading equipment 3:45 pm - Change into uniforms/inspection by section leaders 4:15 pm - Begin loading buses 4:45 pm - Depart PSLHS 5:15 pm - Arrive at South County Stadium/unload equipment 5:30 pm - Sectional warm up time 6:00 pm - Full band warm up 6:15 pm - Begin to transition into stadium 7:00 pm - Kickoff! 8:00 pm - Halftime 9:15 pm - Game ends 9:30 pm - Perform post game 9:45 pm - transition to buses 10:00 pm - Load equipment 10:15 pm - Depart South County Stadium 10:45 pm - Arrive at PSLHS 11:00 pm - Dismissal |
